Day 5: New York!

Today, we made our journey to New York to see some of the Persian art exhibits that they had in the museums there!

We left early in the morning, so we could spend as much time as we could at the exhibits. It was definitely a long drive, as it took around 3 hours to get to New York, park the car, and make sure we had everything ready. However, our trip went smoothly and safely, and we were able to get to The Met parking safely!

After parking, we walked from The Met and made our way over to the Asia Society! The Asia Society had an exhibit on different Persian artists and their work, which we found out were inspired by a lot of different things, whether it be their lives in Iran or something entirely different. There were a lot of super interesting art pieces in the exhibit, and I'll be going more in-depth about all of them in my next blog, including pictures and explanations of each art piece!

This exhibit definitely helped me further understand Persian culture, as well as the history that surrounds the people of Iran.

After the exhibit, we walked a long way to a cafe to get something small to eat before we headed over to The Met! Since the walk to the cafe was around 45 minutes, we took a car back to The Met!

The Met had a lot of super interesting art that we looked at before going up to the specific exhibit we were looking for! The specific exhibit we looked at was one with a lot of different kinds of Islamic Art. A lot of the art was from years ago, some from the 18th to 19th centuries, and some were from the 8th century. A lot of the art was from Iran, and it ranged from bowls and cups, gold jewelry, sculptures of different animals, and many more. I'll also go more in-depth on this exhibit in another blog, with pictures of everything I saw!

This exhibit was definitely super interesting to me as well, since I could relate to it as a Muslim. It was also interesting to see all of the different types of art that existed during so many different time periods in Iran, and it helped relate back to The Persian Cosmopolis article that I read yesterday, since some of the art was from around the same time period that was talked about in the article!

After going through the exhibit, Dr. Dar and I made our way back to the car, and started driving to our next destination, which was Virginia!
